"Have you seen the moon tonight? Look at the moon," the telephone said to me, and I wrapped myself in a bathrobe and stumbled underneath a wet night shimmering from the branches of spring stars.
"Well," I said, "I'm nearsighted and the moon is some thousands of miles away. But it's shiny. And round."
"It is? Over here it's orange. I was thinking you could write a poem about it."
"I suppose that's the difference between New York and California."
So, this is the poem I have not written
about the moon I have not seen.

~noriB called us one night in spring 2004, babbling about how orange the moon was. It turned out that this was the case only in California and not in Massachusetts, where I was at the time. I managed to get a poem out of it all the same.
